Umbrella cockatoo Parrots

The umbrella cockatoo, belonging to the genus Cacatua, is a striking bird known for its impressive crest that resembles an umbrella when raised. Native to the tropical forests of Indonesia, particularly the islands of Sulawesi and the surrounding areas, these birds are characterized by their predominantly white plumage, yellow or orange under the wings, and a strong, curved bill. Umbrella cockatoos are highly social and intelligent, often forming strong bonds with their human companions when kept as pets. However, they require extensive mental stimulation and social interaction to thrive, which makes them a commitment for potential owners. Their populations face threats from habitat destruction and illegal trapping for the pet trade, leading to some species being classified as endangered.
